love, murder, passion…in the heat of the night what is unresolved comes to the fore. after our maiden voyage into the unknown last spring, on our continuing expedition we find ourselves entering into the fantastical world of a bedroom jockey with a sublimely over active imagination.

monitor 66s arrival onto the scene with last summers triscuits saw them pop up on a lot of top djs radars, such as the magician who opened his magic tape 22 mix with it. it also saw their first release on house of disco, their adopted home. since then the two boys from sweden have been honing their sound through a series of lauded remixes for tempogeist, kolombo & rythm operator. now after some painstaking studio time they are ready to release their next original work, their first solo ep, vitae on house of disco records.

2013 sees the release of norwegian disco viking rune linbaeks latest long player, on his drum island label. its his first album since the 2000 release (sondag) on paper recordings repap offshoot. last years single wonder feat kurt maloo on the label was a day one sell out here at all ears and marked a significant maturing of runes trademark sound. the influence of norway on the worlds forward thinking disco scene & beyond is more than evident, with countrymen like todd terje, prins thomas and hans peter lindstrom all leading the charge for years now. the creative cauldron of the infamous club in a public toilet skansen has much to answer for! krasava is a very much vocal led project, with a cast of featured vocalists which includes norwegian popstar anneli drecker alongside recent collaborator Øyvind blikstad. the album is steeped in norwegian folklore, visually and musically and the gentle lilt of the norse/balearic sound, sits comfortably alongside more cosmic flavours, rock and beautifully crafted pop.

discovery recordings is proud to release coule ba by analog players society, a collective melting pot of musicians lead by amon. couleba draws from west african influences and features the incredible missia saran diabate of guinea on lead vocals. we came across couleba while finishing the catalano ep at the hook studio last summer. amon was doing his final mix-down of the track and we fell in love with the song immediately. shortly after we lined up the release, the studio and surrounding areas endured hurricane sandy. with the red hook initiative, amon and his family began helping out wherever they could. when power finally returned and the debris was cleared, it seemed only appropriate that the record should benefit the organization that did so much for red hook during that time.

abstract division unveil the third and final ep of their time and perception trilogy! this last one contains two original tracks and a remix from one of the most prominent artists around right now: psyk!

twd or the wild division records a new techno label based from terrassa (bcn) founded trough the collaboration between spear, dustertraum and miki craven. the label aims to follow a dark moody side of techno music, with simple structures and analog sounds reminiscent the old mid 90s productions. this label is the result of the work of the last three years between this three artists. the label will count with more international artists who will take part with the label signing and remixing further references.

the best is yet to come is the title of the newest release by schallbox records and also stands for the claim of the basel based recording label to continually evolve and develop itself further, thereby upping the ante with each new release.
schallbox014 is a deep and ever grooving track made by berlins michael nielebock and leevey that will definitely see the openair season prolonged until the end of the year. additionally, larsson delivers a dubby remix featuring an electrifying beat and broad synth sounds. schallbox even resurrects some golden memories of legendary bar25 - courtesy of sasch cawa and dirty doerings remix which is furthermore gratifying the vinyl package. last but not least the release is completed by the contribution of newcomer benotmane from basel, who converts the original into a dreamy sunrise tune.

revivra is back on gamm with two seriously well produced re-edits (or remixes?) on the soulful boogie tip. just like last time this is just not some quick 5 min fixes but hand crafted reworks that takes the original tracks to the next level with loads of added live elements. the a-sides take on midways set it out is so good it almost makes the original sounds like the remix. with a beautiful live string intro it explodes into a proper boogie winner that easily could have been produced by any of the big producers from late 70s. on the flip revivra goes back to his deep love for marvin with +11 min excursion of mercy mercy me. epic is an understatement!

prime numbers return with m7. the first side is taken by a remix of wireman’s >armour<, the original of which was included on pn04 released at the end of last year. the remix is from move d (deep space network, source records), he ups the tempo and in trademark fashion softens the surfaces of the original, warming the core of the track whilst creating a bass heavy groove with twisting beats, synths and a husky hypnotic vocal sample. the flip includes two tracks. to start we have >crushed< by actress. darren j. cunningham aka actress runs the much lauded werk records and this track is taken from his limited cd only album >hazyville< (released on werk in the autumn of last year ) >crushed< is slo-mo, extra bass heavy, low slung house with an addictive lofi synth riff and submerged strings. the track bumps along with hiss and crackle to good affect before turning into a badalamenti-esque loop to finish. to round things off be, the up & coming manchester based producer provides >when you left<. be cut his teeth with the chicago based still music and a great al hudson reedit which found extensive dj support on its release. >when you left< is a shuffling downbeat house groove with a jazz sentiment featuring deep rhodes keys and clipped drums, the track breaks up into a bluesy accapella section then builds up to a more direct 4/4 groove to the end

the 909, the drum machine that has shaped the dance floor in the last few couple of decades, is still leading the underground sound. in this e.p. tino venditti, dj producer based in rome, goes through the sound 90 thus exploiting the wake of 909, adding a pinch of electronics

vinyl only !! of course!! more than a year after his last ep, quarion returns to retreat for a fantastic expedition: a journey to the >moons around jupiter<. consisting of four tracks dedicated to the four galilean satellites, >moons around jupiter< is a sonic masterpiece that blurs the lines between house, techno, broken beat and disco. a certain detroit mystique (the futurism & outer space themes) also surrounds this mesmerizing ep which quarion himself ranks as possibly his best work to date … come and take a ride! we may share the ultimate bond with the moon europa: the presumption of oceans underneath its crust of ice as well as an atmosphere that is mostly filled with oxygen make this satellite a good candidate for possible extra-terrestrial life (more micro-organisms than 3-eyed aliens though). quarions >europa< hopes to reveal the secrets underneath the ice layer: beginning with a skippy beat and a tinkling piano, the track evolves rapidly as subtle keys and a cosmic choir appear from beyond.

nick lapiens debut release as metropolis garnered little attention when it materialized last year. a skeptical yet dedicated network of underground heads built up a subterranean buzz that has yet to spread into the daylight. that initial transmission was thick with the raw analogue flavors that have become ever-present in dance floor fare recently—but his is a sound that is dedicated to the emotive, narrative aspects of electronic music rather than simple fetishization or passing curiosity in the days of yore. this, his second release as metropolis, shows a more focused and patient hand at work. the titular track on the a side is a deep, psychedelic groover. melodies, textures and sequences undulate and intertwine within a lightless atmosphere guided by lapien with optimum restraint. equally pensive and gorgeous, the flood serves as a machine’s beat-less foil on the reverse. made up of little more than feedback and two slow, echo laden arpeggiated sequences, this is reminiscent of jean michel jarre’s more sinister moments: a brilliant paradox of economy and indulgence. expect to hear more from lapien here at sequencias. he has many more dark corners left unexplored.

spanish dj and producer uner is looking back on an impressive but intense career. after first milestones on top notch labels like saved and diynamic he scored even more points with his last releases on the Überlabels cadenza and visionquest which made him one of the most wanted minimal-techno-producers around

bill youngman has been around for almost 20 years with releases on legendary labels like serotonin, scandinavia and tresor. he crossed many styles from melodic electro to really, really harsh techno, but recently he seems to have found his very own personal style. the music he released on killekill in the last two years show a very singular approach to techno and electro. percussive, deep, melodic, toolish – all at the same time.

andres zaccos very own greener imprint is back with a brand new 12 inch release. as you can already tell from the labels frequency in output (the last 12 inch, andres zacco & franco cinellis the secret mission ep came out in may 2011), greener places its primary focus on quality, not quantity. for this fourth outing, greener is glad to welcome j.c. – a young, up-andcoming producer from madrid, who presents here his personal take on techno. both titles on the m-theory ep put forward a fine mixture of unyielding, grounding rhythmic structures and mesmerizing synths, building into grand momentums.

chris spero (otherwise known as uk house and techno producer glimpse) and hypercolour co-founder and producer, alex jones, return once again as dense & pika to the hotflush fold with move your body back. having crept out of the shadows back in 2011 with a collection of white labels released through their own eponymous imprint, dense & pika went on to bolster their rising profile with the release of their hotflush debut (crispy duck) which landed late last year as well as with their memorable live set at hotflushs recent boiler room takeover. there is nothing chin-strokingly complicated or needlessly over-worked about their productions. they make interesting techno aimed at the dance floor and move your body back continues with this central aesthetic. the three track ep plunders percussive depths by way of stern machine rhythms, swollen low-end grit and the echoing, anthemic elements of warehouse rave techno. the title track of the ep may already be familiar to many having appeared on their resident advisor podcast in march and is already being played out by maya jane coles, boddika and adam beyer, amongst others.

upcoming release from todd osborn on jared wilsons 7777 label. the a-side track 303 explores some dark acid territory, while the b-side 909 is a melodic house track in osborns signature style. like previous 7777 releases, we do not expect these to last long.

after last years spectacular return to our airwaves and the world of techno with the release of the excellent album from the far future pt. 2, the detroit veteran terrence dixon is back with a new release entitled the giant robot ep on monique musique imprint, while that enigmatic and experimental british producer actress has been brought in on remix duties.

on different ends ep diaphan music returns with a 3 tracks strong ep featuring last mood, kindimmer and the collaboration between george p. and wichniowski. starting with staged authenticity, last mood builds a solid house fundament around a hypnotic bassline followed by kindimmer who gets you jackin again with his stab driven track bprick. site b contains a rough house cut called life in sequences being a result of a studio jam of george p. and wichniowski.

emotional rescue certainly laid a claim for the most esoteric of reissue endeavours last year, and they are looking to maintain this approach in 2013. their first release sees the label dig further into the cassette archives of kevin harrison, focusing specifically on the neo project the coventry musician did in cahoots with fellow electronic explorer, peter every from neophyte records. as you can tell from the primitive drum heavy tone of the music, neo surfaced in 1985 with the 8 track cassette release global network. this twelve presents five of those tracks, all of which echo the pulsing electronic rhythms of the fly ep, emotional rescues previous harrison reissue, and will find as much favour with those who sleep on the left side of disco as fans of cold wave.

ok, first of all i want to reveal a myth: these infotexts are mostly writtenby the labelowners themselves, not by hard-working editors. so what happens, when the guy behind a label releases his own music? well, either he is a well-organised deadline-machine and he asks somebody capable of doing this stupid job, or he realizes:

this ep marks a newbeginning in my career. since some time now, >the fog burns off< and we get more and more stable in the buisness. last year we were on the road quite a bit and we found many new friends. people from other cities, who believe in the same things, who do similar stuff and who are of the same kidney as we are. so that makes me very happy, which reflects in the music. for the first time i feel like coming home, although we are at the beginning of our journey into the industry yet.
